SYNTHESIS OF CHITOSAN LAURATE BY TRANSESTERIFICATION BETWEEN METHYL LAURATE WITH CHITOSAN ACETATE (Sintesis Kitosan Laurat Melalui Reaksi Transesterifikasi Metil Laurat dengan Kitosan Asetat)

ABSTRAK

Telah disintesis kitosan laurat melalui reaksi transesterifikasi antara metil laurat dan kitosan asetat dengan bantuan katalis natrium metoksida. Kitosan asetat diperoleh dari hasil reaksi esterifikasi kitosan dengan asetat anhidrida dalam pelarut diklorometana, dimana gugus amina dalam kitosan diproteksi terlebih dahulu dengan mereaksikan kitosan dan asetaldehida (sebagai gugus pelindung) membentuk aldimin. Pada akhir reaksi, penghilangan gugus pelindung menggunakan natrium bikarbonat. Kitosan laurat didukung oleh data spektroskopi inframerah dengan munculnya υC=O stretching dari ester pada serapan 1689,5 cm-1¬ yang biasanya dijumpai sebagai karbonil (C=O) dari turunan polisakarida yang memiliki β- linkage seperti selulosa, adanya gugus OH (hidroksil) pada daerah 3456,2 cm-1 dan C–O–C pada daerah 1180,4 cm-1; υ stretching dari CH2 yang rantai panjang pada daerah 709,8 cm-1.

ABSTRACT

Chitosan laurate had been synthesis throught transesterification between methyl laurate and chitosan acetate by using sodium metoxide as catalyst. Chitosan acetate was obtained from result of esterification chitosan with acetate anhydride in dichloromethane, where as amino group of chitosan was protected at first by reaction of chitosan with acetaldehyde ( as protecting group) . The deprotecting of protect group by using sodium bicarbonate at the end of reaction. Chitosan laurate was support by infrared spectroscopy data with appearing υC=O sterctching of ester at absorbtion 1689,5 cm-1 with usually found as carbonyl of polysaccharide derivative which posses β-linkage like cellulose, group OH (hydroxyl) at 3456,2 cm-1 and C-O-C at 1180,4 cm-1; υ stretching of CH2 as long chain appeared at region 709,8 cm-1.
